The Farm

DEXTER BEEF

Treovis Cross Farm, consists of 52 acres of pasture, woodland and moorland. It is located on the Eastern edge of Bodmin Moor and is in a Higher Level Stewardship Scheme with Natural England.  We have an area set aside for willow growing and it is this which Carol uses in her basket making.

Our Dexter cattle are a native breed which thrive on our extensive grassland and moorland.  The cows live with their mothers for about seven months before weaning when they join the herd of young stock.

Dexter cattle are the smallest breed of cattle in the UK and they are renowned for their flavoursome and succulent beef.
All our Dexter’s are reared traditionally at our Treovis Cross Farm, being fed only on naturally grown grass, hay and silage. The steers take up to 2½ years to reach maturity at which time they are taken to a small local abattoir where the meat is hung for between 2 and 3 weeks. It is then processed by our butcher into conveniently sized and clearly labelled packs.

We can supply anything from a whole carcass, half a carcass and mixed quarter down to our £60 introductory packs or individual cuts and joints.  The meat can be supplied fresh at certain times of the year or frozen.
