South West Forest
South
West Forest provide a valued working relationship with The Ruby
Country Initiative, in projects such as the Countryside Clinic and
accommodate the initiatives’ office within Cookworthy Forest
Centre. South West Forest covers an area of over 300,000 hectares
and is broadly bounded by Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor and Exmoor . The
aim is to increase tree cover to 15% from the current level of 10%
by encouragement and financial support. This would mean 15,000 ha
planted over the next 15 years.
SWF offer:
• Free and independent advice on woodland management
and creation
• Training to facilitate management of new and existing woodlands
• Support for local communities in the creation and diverse
use of woodland through our Civic Woodlands Programme
• Networking and partnership opportunities for farmers and
landowners through supporting organisations like the South West
Forest Collaboration Group and Ecolots
• An Education Service which visits schools, colleges and
community groups in addition to guiding pre-booked groups on activities
based at the Cookworthy Forest Centre.
Main aims are to enhance:
• The lifestyles of those living and working in the
South West Forest area,
• The environment in which they live; and,
• The opportunities for integrated, sustainable rural development.
